The Pakistan Overseas Employment Promoters Association (POEPA) is a licensed trade organization representing 4700 licensed overseas employment promoters all across the country. It is registered with the Ministry of Commerce under the Trade Organizations Ordinance/Rules (2013) overseas employment promoters are licensed by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development. The overseas employment promoters follow the Code of Conduct & business rules established under the Emigration Ordinance (1979) and Rules thereunder. Eleven million Pakistanis have been sent abroad for work, predominantly in the Gulf Peninsula through POEPA, and their remittances back to Pakistan have attributed billions of dollars to the country's economy. Overseas employment promoters have huge importance, considering the country's demographic indicators; the population growth rate is higher than the average growth rate of the South Asian neighbors. Pakistan is the sixth-most populous country in the world, & has the ninth-largest labour force, at approximately 65 million workers. Out of this substantial figure, nearly 4 million are unemployed. For the unemployed and underemployed workers, emigration for jobs to countries with stronger economies is almost an imperative. Migration from Pakistan for employment peaked in 2012, when 628,452 workers left the country, while the statistics for 2016 indicates that the figure has surpassed 900,000. POEPA and its member OEPs, worked unaided to achieve this milestone without any assistance from the government authorities. Remittances from overseas employees are a significant source of foreign exchange revenues and help to stabilize the economy by reducing the trade deficit. We OEPs had played a vital role in eradication of unemployment & boosting the national exchequer with the contribution of 30 billion dollars every year. Our sector had served as the backbone and strengthening our beloved country economy.
